Obituary of Carl Robert ‘Bob’ Frantz, Jr.

Carl Robert 'Bob' Frantz, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Administration Hospital.  Carl was born in Berwyn, IL, on October 20, 1947, to the union of Carl and Bertha (nee Gibson) Frantz.  He was a graduate of Lincoln-Way High School.  Carl proudly served our country in the United States Army, with the 34th Scout Dog PLT, during the Vietnam War, handling Max-8X41 where he earned a Bronze Star Medal and an Air Medal.

After 32 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2002 from SBC as a Fiber Optics Technician.  He was proud to be a member of the War Dog Handlers and the American Legion Post #1080.  Carl put his carpentry skills to work and stayed busy around the house; he could build or fix anything.  He enjoyed cooking and traveling with his wife after his retirement, but what he loved the most, was spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him, and he will truly be missed.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Shirley; his children, Kelly (Jay), Eric (Diana), Jennifer (Dustin) and Carl (Alyssa); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his siblings, Carol and Jody (Ben); mother-in-law, Amelia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, Joseph.

Funeral Services for Carl Robert Frantz, Jr. will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.  Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.
