Obituary:

John Wesley Long, Jr., 64, of Carlyle, Illinois, born November 1, 1950 in East St. Louis, Illinois, passed away, Saturday, August 1, 2015, in Belleville, Illinois.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army, assigned to the 212th MP Company 1971-1972 in Vietnam. He proudly and faithfully attended the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization's Retreat, in Kokomo, Indiana, every year. He was employed at SIUE for over 22 years. He enjoyed fishing; especially with his granddaughter, Chloe. He loved and cherished his family and will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Dorothy N., nee Peck, Long, Sr.; a sister, Judith Stehlick; and his brother-in-law, Samuel Deerinwater.

Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Wanda J. Long, nee Sartin, of Carlyle, Ill.; his daughters, Tammy White, of East Alton, Ill., Michelle (Mike Moore), of Bismarck, Missouri, and Amy (Ronald) Anderson, of Carlyle, Ill.; his grandchildren, Jenni Patton, Rebecca (Lyndon II) Johnson, Ashlee (Theren) Gray, Joseph L. White, III, Savannah (Amanda Holle) Long, Cody (Kelly Goforth) Long, John Wesley (Mechele Webb) Long, III, Carl Anderson, and Brandon "Boogie" Anderson; great grandchildren, Corey, Caleb, George IV, Lyndon III, Kylee, Kelly, Hunter, and Chloe; a sister, Sheila Deerinwater; and his beloved dog, Little Bear.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the funeral home, with Rev. Wilson Wickiser officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
