On May 3rd, 1971, 63 Dogs from USARV Dog Training Detachment were the first dogs shipped back to the starred (I was told). The dogs were Scout Dogs & Mine & Tunnel Dogs whose medical records showed they'd had no diseases that kept other dogs from returning to Lackland. I know this because I was the Vet Tech for the 42nd when no more school trained Vet Techs were being assigned to VN due to the US withdrawing. I'd OHT'd w/Sp/4 Mick Chapman who received a Christmas Drop. Also the Scout Dog I had with the 58th Scout Dog Platoon at Camp Evans was named 'Teddy'. I don't remember his number. |
