Obituary for Doyle Eugene Chandler


Doyle “Doy” E. Chandler, 71, of Spiceland passed away following a courageous battle with cancer Thursday April 4, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 26, 1947 in Greensburg, IN a son of the late Paul Edward Chandler and Mildred (Misner) Kemp.

Doyle was a 1966 graduate of Manilla High School and veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam war. He was a gentle giant with a humble spirit. Doyle was a Little League Baseball coach in Rush County for 13 years. Win or lose he took the kids to Dairy Queen for ice cream. He loved sports especially the Purdue Boilermakers, Colts and Pacers. Doyle was also a lifelong avid hunter.


Doyle is survived by his wife of 48 years, Paula (Kanouse) Chandler of Spiceland; children, Doyle Eugene (Leannette) Chandler II of Orlinda, TN, Bobby (Megan) Chandler of Spiceland, Jennifer (Mike ) Craft of Spiceland; grandchildren, Wyatt Chandler of Ft. Drum, NY, Wesley Craft of Spiceland, Taylor Craft of Spiceland, Halle Chandler of Spiceland, Katelyn and Tyler Chandler both of Orlinda, TN, Hank Chandler of Spiceland, Chandler Craft of Spiceland, Brandon Chandler of Orlinda, TN, Ross Craft of Spiceland, Harper Chandler of Spiceland; siblings, Eva (Frank) White and Cathy (Don) Jacobs all of CA; special sisters-in-law, Tammy (companion: Mark Clements) Vawter of Spiceland and Yolanda (Scott) Teague of Spiceland and many loving nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, Doyle is preceded in death by his brothers, Richard “Dick” Chandler and Michael Edward Chandler.


Services will be 2:00pm Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Josh Rea and Patrick Bedel officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland with military rites conducted by the American Legion and US Army. Visitation will be from 11-2pm prior to the service on Saturday. Doyle Chandler, 212th MP Co 67-68 from Spiceland, IND. Was sent home from the hospital to live remaining days with family. Cancer has advanced. Wife, Paula, tending to him making sure he is comforted. He walked Comanche 2A05 in Long Binh and Vinh Tau.
