Odin and I at the 31st SPS-K9 kennels, Tuy Hoa AB.

Biography:

My career as a dogman started with my dog Happy as part of the 51th APS at Naha AB in Okinawa. Then I had two dogs, Ingo and Alex with the SPS-K9 section at Malstrom AFB, Great Falls, MT. Went TDY to Showa AS, Tachikawa, Japan where I was assigned to and trained Odin (575M) and brought him back to Tuy Hoa AB. An absolutely outstanding and very aggressive sentry dog. Man that feels like a lifetime ago. When I left Tuy Hoa in June of ’69 that was the end of my four year military career. I went back home to Kansas, got married to Clarene, moved to Colorado and went to business school for a couple years. Moved to Iowa, had two kids (Travis and Heather) and worked as financial controller for a manufacturing company and finally returned to Colorado to work as VP-Finance for a software development company. Finally went back to school and earned my BS and MBA in accounting and finance. Another job or two later and I wound up working for another software development company as Director of Finance and after a few acquisitions the corporate move was to be San Jose, CA and that’s when I decided that the mountains of Colorado is where I wanted to make my home. Then I went to work as controller for the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) and I wish I had found this position many years ago. This is a real change from the fast pace of the high tech industry. My first decision of the day was which pair of jeans, boots and cowboy hat to wear. This job was a real hoot! Now I am retired and my outside interests include fly fishing, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and spending money on restoring my ’78 FJ40 Land Cruiser. Hope to meet and communicate with more of you from the 31st SPS-K9.
