Biography:
As told by Ernie Ayala on 09/29/2008: I know a little about Joe Rasbeary (actual spelling) because he was stationed with me in Tay Ninh. Reminded of Alfalfa from the Lil' Rascals and was one of those Good 'Ol Boys that would break out into a country song whenever things went quiet. He wrote a letter to my mom when I got wounded in my hand and couldn't move it. I found out how hard it is to dictate a letter than to just write it. His actual name was Joe Larry Rasbeary and as you can see from the note and picture I got from his young widow, Michele, he was born 07-20-1947. He was from Trinity, TX and his wife said she would love to come and meet us in San Antonio. She didn't know Joe did not belong to the VDHA because he only went to an MP Sentry Dogs Reunion that one time in 1997 before his health turned bad. He died of complications of Agent Orange which led to cancer. His dog's name was Bruno but tatoo number is unknown. There is no doubt in my mind had he been well he would have been a member of the VDHA because I would have had more contact with him. I also took his passing personally and was saddened with the news. He was a warden in several Texas prisons after years of Law Enforcement career but he never lost his sense of humor. He was funny in Vietnam and that sense of humor helped him deal with his declining health.
