AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL Awarded: Bronze Star Medal with " V " Device Date of service: 20 June 1971 Theater: Republic of Vietnam Reaon: For heroism in connection with ground operations against a hostil force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant Jackson distinguished himself by Valorus actions on 20 june 1971, while serving as a Dog Handler attached to company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry. On that date the unit was engaged in a search and clear operation when Sergeant Jackson with his dog was walking point and detected fifteen North Vietnamese soldiers carrying packs and weapons. Immediately and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, Sergeant Jackson engaged the enemy with an accurate volume of small arms fire and then maneuvered the element into a more effective fighting position. Sereant Jackson directed the unit's fire on the enemy personnel and was instrumental in silencing two of the North Vietnamese Soldiers. When the contact was broken, a small patrol was dispatched to search the area. The patrol found an AK-47 rifle, various munitions, medical supplies, food and clothing which the enemy were carrying. Sergeant Jackson's timely and courageous actions prevented the friendly unit from suffering any casualties and enabled them to successfully complete their mission. Sergeant Jackson's personal heroism, professional competence,and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 23d Infantry Division, and the United States Army. Sergeant Jackson Was also Awared; The Bronze Star Medal 2nd Award for Meritorious service, Purpple Heart, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal 2Awards, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, And Airborne Paratrooper Wings. He also did a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1965 - 1966 with the 101st Airborne at Phang Rang, Vietnam.
