William Roy Burney 432nd SPS Udorn RTAB, Thailand 1969-1970 MWD Eric 4M81 BURNEY, William Roy, 63, born in Albion, NE December 3, 1947 died Sunday, January 2, 2011 of esophageal cancer. Preceded in death by daughter, Sarah Burney; parents, Roy and Catherine Burney and sister, Karen Shull. Bill began his life’s work at Lackland AFB as a security policeman and dog handler. After four years in the service he started his law enforcement career continuing with dog handling and training involving patrol, narcotics and explosive detection. He believed in inter-agency cooperation to make use of one of the best tools a department could have and in doing so met and made many friends throughout AZ. Bill had recently retired from the Oro Valley Police Dept. He was a good man. Survived by his wife of 34 years, Marcia; brother, Tom; sisters, Catherine, Margie, Mary, Helen and several nieces and nephews. Also his beloved god-daughter, Kensy McCarthy. (A letter from his big sister Cathy Ghrist on September 26, 2011.) He had so many good friends, he was not only a great guy but had great people around him. Marcia took his ashes to San Diego two weeks ago and left him and his dog to swim and play with the seals. It is where he wanted to be so that is where he is; there and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Again thanks for what you have done for my brother. :) Siochain, Cath Webmaster note: I have posted 8 more photos, that Cathy shared with us, in his profile.
