In Memory of George Phillip Long 1948 – 2013 George Phillip Long Obituary Date of Birth: Tuesday, January 20th, 1948 Date of Death: Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 George Phillip Long, 65, of Palatka, Florida passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following his well-fought seven year battle with cancer. He was born in Shelbyville, IN and grew up in Indianapolis where as a twelve year old was part of the Boy’s Club game room state championship team. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict where he was a town patrol sentry dog handler in South Vietnam and was a convoy liaison with the South Vietnamese police. He worked for nine years with the Palatka Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He later worked for Georgia Pacific Corp. in Palatka in tissue converting, recovery and tall oil, retiring in 2011 after 21 years of service. He attended the College Park Baptist Church in Palatka. Phil was a quiet strong influence on many people whose lives he touched. Preceding him in death were his father, George Long; a son, Brett Fair; and a brother, Jim Long. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Marilyn Bellamy Long of Palatka; his mother and step-father, Virginia and Bill Pierson of Indianapolis, IN; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Lisa Fair of Punta Gorda, FL, two daughters and son-in-law, Crissy and Keith Syvinski of Franklin, IN, and Jaime Fair of Ft. Myers; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Cindy Long of Indianapolis, IN; three sisters, Shirley Smith of Abilene, TX, Marilyn and Scott Radcliff, and Jennifer and Brian Inman, all of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Cassandra Syvinski, Chelsea, Kaitlyn, Rebecca, Emma, Olivia and Megan Fair; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday (today), Dec. 12th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13th at the funeral home with Pastor Barry Beauchamp officiating. In honor and celebration, a video chronicling his life will be shown.
