I joined the Air Force on the fourth of July 1967. After Lackland AFB I was sent to Suffolk County AFB down in the Hampton’s of Long Island New York. I humped the ramp for a few months then it was back to Texas for a summer of dog school. When I finished school I was paired with ASTA who was the meanest K-9 in the Air Force. The base closed 12/69 and I was sent to Udorn, Thailand, 432nd SPS K-9. I met my friend for life Thor76M5. He was different than ASTA because he was a patrol dog. Out of 65 dogs we had 5 patrol dogs in our kennel. It was a great year. In Dec of 69 I was sent to McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS for my last few months in the Air Force. Wichita was (and is) my home so my exit pay was $12.00. That was a cab ride to downtown from the base. My discharge was April 29, 1970 and I started the Wichita Police Dept Academy the next day.
